Dance Team Auditions for 2022-2023 Season

AUDITIONS

It’s time to audition for the Alderwood Dance Spectrum Dance team for the 2022-2023 season. Dance team not only provides more opportunities to dance and perform, but also allows dancers to remain connected, have a fun physical outlet, and help them remain in a positive atmosphere of friendship and purpose. We look forward to seeing your dancer at the audition!!

The 2022-2023 Dance Team auditions are being held on Friday, June 3rd from 6-8pm. Arrive at least 30 min early to warm yourself up and fill out an audition form.
Female and Female identifying dancers should wear leotard, and tights (shorts optional but not preferred). Male and Male identifying dancers should wear a form fitting t-shirt and black dance tights/leggings/shorts. Hair should be in a bun if you have long hair or slicked back out of the face for short hair, and not have to be fixed during the audition. Audition sign up’s will be at the front desk of the studio on Monday, May 9th.
Dancers need to be going into or already in levels Jazz II/Ballet II or higher to audition for the Dance Team.  Existing Dance Team members need to audition to be considered for the 2022-2023 team.  If you are new to the studio, this criteria would be at least 2- 3 years of beginning ballet and jazz, you should know the basics (pointed feet, straight knees, body positioning, names of steps, etc.)
We want well rounded dancers. To obtain this, Dancers are required to take two ballet classes, one Jazz/Lyrical class and the dance team class. A Hip Hop class is HIGHLY encouraged, and dancers would benefit from acrobatics, tap, and jazz or lyrical (if this is not their chosen required class). Dancers also need to sign up and attend a minimum of 1 ballet and 1 jazz class per week this coming summer session to be eligible to be on dance team. Dancers need to be enrolled in the correct level for their dance abilities.  (For example, if the dancer is supposed to be in two Ballet 3 classes, they need to be enrolled and attending both Ballet 3 classes.  They should not be in a class that is lower than their level like Adult  Ballet I/II or Ballet II.)
Choreography Week for Dance Team is TBD and dependent on how many dancers audition. Rehearsal fees will apply for this “Choreography week”. An hour of rehearsal time is $65. If the group is 10 dancers, each dancer then pays $6.50/hour. (The total cost is split between dancers who are present at the rehearsal). In the event that enrollment in dance team is low, we may not have choreography week and instead we may schedule private lessons at a later date to learn choreography.
Cost usually is between $70-$400 per dance competition. This depends on how many routines your dancer is in and if you have any duets/trios or solos. (The more dances the more it costs). There is also an addition fee added to competitions to help pay for desk time to sign the dancers up/field emails, and the teacher that is going to chaperone the event. Team Jackets are also required (about $50). There will also be a membership fee deposit of $300 due on July 1st, that will be applied to your final competition/competitions of the season. This fee is non-refundable if your dancer decided to quit/resign before the end of the Dance Team Season.
Commitment level is about 3 days a week of regular classes, plus 1-2 Fridays a month for rehearsals and 3-4 FULL weekends for competitions.
Contracts will be handed out at the end of the audition. If you are chosen for the dance team, please sign and return no later than Saturday, June 18th.
